I only found out today that Endo (2007) won some awards from the Young Critics Circle Film Desk: Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Achievement in Sound and Aural Orchestration, and Best Performance by Male or Female, Adult or Child, Individual or Ensemble in Leading or Supporting Role which was awarded to Jason Abalos.
Congratulations!
Now I am curious to see the movie that beat Endo in Best Picture and Best Screenplay.
There's a review of Endo that expresses how I feel every time I watch it:
By now, practically every love story has been told, but Endo manages to avoid the trappings of your average romantic movie by keeping it extremely real. The film sticks to the philosophy that romance is better when it’s truthful, that true emotion will always trump the Hollywood-style big-love fireworks that most romantic movies employ. There are no people running out on baseball fields, or people yelling on rooftops, or rooms filled with flowers, or weddings crashed at the very last moment. The power...lies in the small moments that are so true to relationships: sharing earphones, listening to music together at the end of the day, talking about hopes and dreams, eyes closed and hands held. It’s really beautiful stuff.

I have this favorite scene in a taiwanese soap that I think best embodies love for me:
the girl always gets harassed when she rides the bus. one day, the guy steps in and stands beside her. his arms protectively circle the girl (not in a cheesy embrace, just a slight protective gesture). no one dares mess with her since.
it's not the cheesy bits that matter. it's the small, genuine gestures that really mean something.
now i sort of want to watch endo. :)
